Surigao del Sur Representative Johnny Ty Pimentel proposed a bill to increase the current amount of unemployment insurance employees can claim from the Social Security System (SSS) in the Philippines.
Social Security System (SSS)
The Philippine Social Security System (SSS) is issuing guidelines to impose a two-month grace period for housing loan payments to allow its members more time to settle their dues amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is proposing a temporary exemption of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) to immediately pay for their social security premiums before they can secure an Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC). Instead, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III suggests that SSS must collect the overseas worker’s premiums three months after their deployment.
