DOLE and PGH Join Forces to Oversee the First-Ever OFW Hospital in the Philippines
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and Philippine General Hospital (PGH) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to assist with the clinical operations of health services in the first-ever hospital for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) in the Philippines.
This was after the administration signed Executive Order (EO) No. 154 to rush the completion of the health establishment.
PGH expertise will add quality to the medical services for the Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) hospital that will be located in San Fernando, Pampanga.
DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III, stated, “I’m glad that the state’s leading research and medical center is supporting the OFW Hospital. With PGH on our side, what could possibly go wrong?”
He added, “In serving the health needs of our modern-day heroes, we need the champion in saving lives. Thank you, PGH, for helping us.”
According to the MOU, PGH will help with the improvement of the OFW hospital, including:
- Clinical and administrative personnel training
- Planning and acquisition of hospital equipment
- Formulation of clinical and fiscal process flow
Aside from the following developments, PGH will also guide the in constructing digitized medical records and hospital information systems as well as designing infrastructure layouts regarding clinical services.
Organizations such as the Philippine Amusement Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), Bloomberry Cultural Foundation Incorporated (BCFI), and Pampanga provincial government will also contribute in the construction of the 100-bed hospital that is scheduled to finish by March 2022.
Bello walked through the facilities and services of the OFW hospital after the MOU signing.
Present in the MOU signing is the following attendees: PGH Director Dr. Gerardo Legaspi, Former President and Pampanga Congressional (Second District) Candidate Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary Leopoldo Vega, and other officials of the labor and health departments, PGH, Bloomberry, and the provincial government.
