DOLE TO HOST JOB FAIRS AND ESTABLISHMENT OF A HOSPITAL FOR OFWS ON LABOR DAY CELEBRATION
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) prepares for its celebration of Labor Day in the Philippines, themed “Pagpupugay sa Manggagawang Pilipino.” According to Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, a variety of job fairs will be simultaneously held in 31 locations across the country on May 1.
Openings for multi-skill job vacancies are available for job hunters seeking for better opportunities in local and overseas employment. Numerous businesses and placement agencies will set up their individual booths to attract applicants.
Along with the job fairs, the groundbreaking ceremony of the first Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) hospital in San Fernando, Pampanga will also take place. Labor Undersecretary Ana Dione states that the new hospital will provide free healthcare services for OFWs and their dependents.
OPPORTUNITIES IN ABUNDANCE FOR LABOR DAY
The biggest job fair for this year will be located at Kingsborough International Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga. DOLE Regional Offices are preparing for the day-long career fairs in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
Over 200,000 local and overseas employment opportunities offered by 1,500 local enterprises and overseas placement agencies are available for job hunters nationwide in the “Trabaho, Negosyo, at Kabuhayan” (TNK) Job and Business Fair Event. Most job vacancies in foreign employment are in Australia, Bahrain, Germany, New Zealand, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
According to the Bureau of Local Employment, Customer Service Representatives (CSR), microfinance officers, and factory workers are few of the many jobs for local employment with top vacancies. For job hunters looking for opportunities abroad, top job openings in overseas employment include nurses, factory workers, cleaners, among others.
FIRST-EVER OFW HOSPITAL IN THE PHILIPPINES
Another highlight of the Labor Day celebration, the groundbreaking ceremony of the first OFW hospital will take place in San Fernando, Pampanga. Undersecretary Dione states that the idea of establishing an OFW hospital came from Secretary Bello whose initiative focuses on providing free healthcare services for migrant workers and their families.
“The hospital will be exclusive for OFWs and their dependents. The plan is to provide them with free services when securing their medical certificates, laboratory exams, and other basic requirements for their overseas deployment,” Dione said.
Donations from OFWs, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), along with the support of the Department of Health (DOH) and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), will fund the establishment of the hospital. The estimated construction time will last for two years. DOLE will announce building features, hospital services, and other important details of the OFW hospital on May 1.
